For many years, controlling erosion on sloped areas has been accomplished through hydroseeding, mulching with straw/hay, and on difficult sites, erosion control blankets. Today, another soil stabilization option exists: mulching with compost or other organic soil mulches. This highly effective technique is being used by progressive highway departments throughout the United States because of its ability to function both immediately and thoroughly on difficult sites. Mulching with organic soil mulches also improves soil quality over time, provides various enviromental benefits, and allows for greater long term vegetation options.
